WYSS 2021 | International Forum on Brain Health and the 2nd Oujiang International Forum on Alzheimer's Disease Convene Today​

On November 13, the 3rd World Young Scientists Summit (WYSS) grandly opened. As one of its key sub-forums, the International Forum on Brain Health and Functional Rehabilitation and the 2nd Oujiang International Forum on Alzheimer's Disease also commenced . The forum was co-organized by Oujiang Laboratory, the Wenzhou Medical University Geriatric Research Institute, and the Zhejiang Provincial Key Laboratory for Alzheimer's Disease Research。Ten academicians, including Yang Xiongli, Zhang Xu, Duan Shumin, and Lu Lin from the Chinese Academy of Sciences; Song Weihong and Liu Fang from the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences; and Zhuo Min from the Royal Society of Canada, alongside nearly a hundred experts in brain health-related fields, gathered to exchange cutting-edge ideas, discuss the latest technologies, and analyze future industry trends . Yao Gaoyuan, Deputy Secretary of the Wenzhou Municipal Committee and Mayor, and Lu Jin, Member of the Leading Party Group and Vice Chairman of the Zhejiang Association for Science and Technology, attended and addressed the forum

Mayor Yao Gaoyuan outlined Wenzhou's recent developments in scientific and technological innovation, highlighting how the gathering of top talents has enhanced the city's independent innovation capability and core competitiveness in the life and health sector. He expressed his hope that through this high-quality international forum, experts would favor Wenzhou, engage deeply with the city, and contribute to building a high-level Healthy Wenzhou

Lu Jin stated that the 2021 WYSS continued to uphold the theme of "Gathering Global Talents for a Shared Future," with the annual topic of "Responsibility, Innovation, Cooperation – Youth Taking Action for Sustainable Human Development." He expressed his hope that Wenzhou, with its innate innovative "force," would become a paradise for young scientists to build their careers

"As a highland for scientific innovation in life and health, Oujiang Laboratory bears the significant mission of building national strategic scientific forces and is entrusted with the important responsibility of promoting high-quality development in Zhejiang Province and Wenzhou City," said Song Weihong, Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences and Director of Oujiang Laboratory, in his welcome address. He expressed the hope to seize this opportunity to fully leverage the laboratory's role as a central hub, further deepen research and exchange on brain diseases, integrate quality resources and strengths in brain health, promote multi-party cooperation and problem-solving, gather new advantages for Wenzhou's innovation-driven strategy, and provide strong support for the development of China's life and health industry

Oujiang Laboratory Academic Committee Established

At the opening ceremony, the Oujiang Laboratory Academic Committee—dubbed the laboratory's "core intellectual leadership"—was officially inaugurated. Fourteen academicians and professors, including Liu Changsheng (Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences), Ouyang Zhongcan (Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences), Li Xiaokun (Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering), Fu Xiaobing (Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering), and Chen Guoqiang (Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences), were appointed as members of the first Academic Committee. They will collectively drive the high-quality development of scientific research at Oujiang Laboratory, providing solid intellectual support for building a top-tier national and world-class major scientific innovation platform.

Collective Signing Ceremony for High-Level Talent Appointments

Oujiang Laboratory has engaged in discussions with over 300 high-level talents. A collective signing ceremony for high-level talent appointments was held during the forum, where more than 20 academicians, experts under national recruitment programs, and recipients of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars joined Oujiang Laboratory. This initiative aims to accelerate the achievement of original, critical, and pioneering technological breakthroughs and outcomes


Faced with the accelerating global aging population and the sharp increase in the number of people with Alzheimer's disease, achieving breakthroughs in prevention and treatment to better help patients is crucial. The "International Forum on Brain Health and Functional Rehabilitation and the 2nd Oujiang International Forum on Alzheimer's Disease," held on the morning of the 14th, will focus on Alzheimer's disease, facilitating in-depth discussions to explore joint solutions for its prevention and treatment
