On March 19, a delegation led by Du Peng, Dean of the School of Population and Health at Renmin University of China, visited Oujiang Lab for an exchange visit. Academician Song Weihong, Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences and Director of Oujiang Lab, received the delegation and chaired the discussion. Representatives from Oujiang Lab and the Geriatrics Research Institute of Wenzhou Medical University also attended the meeting.

During the discussion, Song Weihong extended a warm welcome to Du Peng and his delegation, providing a detailed introduction to the lab’s development history, talent recruitment and cultivation efforts, as well as research progress in the early diagnosis and treatment of cognitive impairment in the elderly. He emphasized that Oujiang Lab possesses distinct advantages in geriatric medical research and that the two institutions share complementary strengths in integrating education, research, medical practice, and application. He expressed hope for substantive collaboration with Renmin University in areas such as joint graduate training and the establishment of a joint research center. Subsequently, Oujiang Lab presented an overview of the "Healthy Aging Prevention of Alzheimer’s Disease Research Plan in China" (HAPCAD). Both sides engaged in thorough discussions on further collaboration based on HAPCAD.

Du Peng provided a detailed introduction to the development of the School of Population and Health at Renmin University and the disciplinary construction of gerontology and geriatrics. He noted that, as a leading institution in Alzheimer’s disease research in China, Oujiang Lab has extensive practical experience and research advantages in community-based cognitive screening for the elderly, nationwide cognitive health surveys, and the construction of longevity cohorts. Renmin University, on the other hand, brings rich experience in translating academic research into policy impacts. He expressed hope that the two sides could establish comprehensive and multi-level cooperation in areas such as the development of new medical disciplines, talent cultivation, exchanges of scientific and technological professionals, and the joint establishment of postdoctoral research stations, thereby providing scientific evidence and intellectual support for government decision-making.

Prior to the meeting, the delegation visited the lab’s exhibition hall, Biomedical Big Data Computing Center, Cryo-Electron Microscopy Center, and core experimental areas. They gained a detailed understanding of Oujiang Lab’s advanced practices in scientific research output, core technology development, and platform construction, and highly praised the lab’s rapid development and comprehensive research support conditions.
This visit marks an important starting point for comprehensive collaboration between Oujiang Lab and Renmin University, laying a solid foundation for deepened cooperation. In the future, the two sides will continue to strengthen collaboration and exchanges in policy, research, talent, and technology, promoting the development of digital-intelligence-driven new medical disciplines. This will further enhance their independent innovation capabilities and ability to serve national major strategies, contributing to the generation of significant policies and scientific research achievements.
