Professor Ahmed Elsheikh is a well-known expert in Ocular biomechanics with interest in ocular material characterization, numerical simulation of ocular biomechanical performance and development of medical devices to improve management of eye conditions. Professor Elsheikh is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. He is co-Editor in Chief of Medicine in Novel Technology and Devices, and Editor of Current Eye Research. Professor Elsheikh has secured over GBP 11m of funding, and published 8 book chapters, over 220 journal papers and 150 conference papers, and has an H index of 44.
Professor Elsheikh’s research interest include:
1. Ocular biomechanics – testing, in-vivo measurement, mapping;
2. Corneal topography;
3. Intraocular pressure measurement.
· I chaired the 6th International Conference on Medicine in Novel Devices and Technologies, held in Hangzhou, China, between the 8th and the 10th of October 2024.
· I won the University of Liverpool award for Research Impact of the year in 2023.
· An hour-long program was produced on my academic history by Egyptian TV Station DMC under the series “Egypt Can” in December 2019 (https://youtu.be/JtP2sVapCUI).
· My Knowledge Transfer Partnership project with UltraVision CLPL (KTP009521, 2014-2017) was given an Outstanding Award by the funding body, UK Innovate, for its significant impact on the company’s commercial performance.
· I was a Governor and Council Member of AlderHey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool, representing the University of Liverpool between 2013 and 2017.
· I won the University’s Sir Alastair Pilkington Award and the Faculty of Science & Engineering 2014 Learning and Teaching Award for my work in introducing the innovative, multidisciplinary Year 4 Civil Engineering Capstone project.
· Since April 2012, I have been part funded by the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre for Ophthalmology, Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and UCL Institute of Ophthalmology, London in acknowledgement of my research contributions to the Centre for Ophthalmology.
